Right? What Right?

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

With those words, Thomas Jefferson makes the strongest case AGAINST abortion. And that case stood until an “enlightened” Supreme Court suddenly discovered something that even the Founders didn’t know existed. Or, perhaps the court ignored our founding documents and created a new “right” which never existed and never will.

When we look at the above words – from the Declaration of Independence – we can see that the truths it deals with are “self-evident.” Merriam-Webster defines this term as: “evident without proof or reasoning.” Another way of saying this is that it’s so obvious that one doesn’t need to add any further proof because anyone can understand it. Anyone, that is, except for those who refuse to see.

Obviously, I’m no legal expert but you don’t have to be to recognize that what the Founders believed is not what many Americans believe today, and that’s sad. But I want to take a look at just several of the words mentioned above and see if we can shed some light on these apparently lost truths.

The first words are these: created equal. Nothing could be truer than this. Each of us begins life in the womb. It doesn’t matter what race you are or whether you’re male or female. If you’re reading this, then you started out life in your mother’s womb. The Scripture states that we’re “fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalm 139:14. How true that is. Because we’re equal and all begin life in the same way, no one has any right to decide which child in the womb should die and which one should live. That’s an inherent right given to us by our “Creator.”

Whenever you read the writings of our Founders and you see the Creator mentioned, or “nature’s God” mentioned rest assured they are referring to the one true God revealed in the Bible. The whole point of mentioning this is because there is a higher law than what man can conceive. That higher law comes from the Creator. And the Creator has “endowed” us with certain “unalienable” rights.

Merriam-Webster defines “endowed” as: “to provide with something freely or naturally <endowed with a good sense of humor>.” That’s what the Creator has done for us. He has endowed us – provided us freely and naturally – with certain “unalienable” rights. Merriam-Webster defines this word as follows: incapable of being alienated, surrendered, or transferred. To put it simply, God has given them to us and only He could revoke them if He so chose. No man has any authority to revoke what God has granted. Not even men and women in black robes who may think they’re “supreme.”

Lets state this very clearly: Rights come from God. Rights come from God. Rights come from God.

Mr. Jefferson then lists three of the most obvious and most important rights: “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” And if you look closely, you’ll see that there’s a natural progression through these rights. What I mean is that before you can “pursue happiness” you need to possess “Liberty.” If you’re not free, then you’re in bondage. People in bondage can’t pursue anything. All they can do is serve their master/s. But to be able to have Liberty, I first need to possess “Life.” Take away the right to “Life” and everything else collapses in an ugly heap of tyranny.

Now that we’ve established the basic self-evident truths we can take a look what people refer to as the “right to choose.” The simple fact is that people who support abortion know that it’s an abomination. They know that it’s the willful killing of an innocent human “Life.” Their own consciences prick them in this, which is why they try to soften their despicable stance by hiding behind the euphemism regarding “choice.” The simple fact is these people favor abortion but are too ashamed to call themselves what they really are: pro-abortion. (Everyone knows they’re not supporters of real choices. If they were they would support “school choice.” They’d support my choice to carry a concealed weapon if I chose to and the laws where I live allowed this. Wisconsin has no such law.)

If abortion were a “right” it would have to come from God. That means you would be able to open a Bible and find Scriptural evidence supporting abortion. But the simple Truth is that God never granted anyone the right to kill his or her offspring. In fact, just the opposite is true. Psalm 127:3 states: “Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” God rewards people with children (What does it say about the depraved mind that says, “No, I don’t want it. I’ll kill it!”). That’s just one of many statements in God’s Word that shows that God considers children to be a blessing from Him.

Even with all of that some people still want to delude themselves into believing that a woman is pregnant with a child, she’s just the “host for the product of conception.” Forget the depravity of that mindset for a moment and take a look at the simple truth. Remember the picture of the surgeons operating on the “product of conception” while still in the womb? If not, click here to refresh your memory. I don’t know about you, but when I look at the picture that tiny little hand doesn’t look like a “product of conception” but the hand of a tiny human being. The other thing to consider is the idea that abortion falls under the “right to privacy.” This one is so ridiculous that it’s hard to believe anyone evens talks about it. Too many people use this made up “right” as an excuse to do whatever they feel like doing. But all we have to do is look to God’s Word to see if this “right” really exists. Once again, we find that the opposite is true.

Hebrews 4:13 declares: “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” God sees all. He sees everything that men do. That means there’s no excuse for men to hide behind. Men and women may hide their sin from others behind closed doors, but they can’t hide it from God. And just like there is no “right” to choose sin, neither is there any “right” to choose to kill another human being.

The fascinating part of this is that those who support abortion know there is no “right” to abortion. That’s why they scream foul anytime a conservative is nominated to the federal bench and particularly to the Supreme Court of the U.S. They know that what the government has granted is a “license” to abortion. That’s the best that humans can do. And these pro-abortion people also know that if the government granted it, they can – and should – revoke it.

So once more I say: Right? What right?
