What Would Jesus Do About The Debt Ceiling?
7/9/2011

According to Charles Rangel (D- NY), members of Congress should be asking what Jesus would do about the debt. It’s an interesting thought, considering what an unethical man Mr. Rangel has revealed himself to be. Suddenly, he and other Democrats want to frame the argument as a “moral” question. Why? To convince voters that somehow he and his Democrat cronies are doing “the Lord’s work.”

But apparently Mr. Rangel’s idea of what “the Lord’s work” entails only includes entitlement spending. That’s the type of spending where government steals money from one group of people merely to give it to a class of people who will then vote for Mr. Rangel and his Democrat cronies. We used to call that charity and it was the responsibility of the local church group, and we didn‘t expect anything in return. That’s where “entitlement” spending should return.

The Left in this country always talks about “separation of church and state” anytime some high school kid wants to pray at a graduation ceremony. But stealing money from one group of people to give to another? No, that’s just doing “the Lord’s work.”

Force the American people to pay huge sums of money -- against their will -- to “Planned Parenthood” to kill babies in the womb? That must also be “the Lord’s work” as Mr. Rangel supports that as well even though God clearly hates the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs 6:16-17).

“Celebrating” homosexual “marriage” is another thing that Mr. Rangel apparently thinks is doing “the Lord’s work” as he supports it, in spite of what God’s work actually says (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Leviticus 18:22; Leviticus 20:13; 1 Timothy 1:10 and others). We know that homosexuals will not inherit the Kingdom of God. What will they inherit? Eternal destruction apart from God. That’s what people are cursing homosexuals to when they refuse to tell them the truth about their Godless lifestyle. Why don't we stop "celebrating" sin, perversion and wickedness and start reproving it instead (Ephesians 5:11-12; 2 Timothy 4:1-4). That really is "the Lord's work."

How someone can claim to be doing “the Lord’s work” while doing things that God Himself says are an abomination apparently escapes too many people. I’ve been told that we shouldn’t be “judging” people like Mr. Rangel because Jesus said "Judge not ,that ye be not judged" (Matthew 7:1). But it’s not "judging" him to point out his hypocrisy anymore than telling someone 2 plus 2 doesn't equal 5 it equals 4. The Apostle Paul said that God’s people are actually judging everything and yet he himself is not judged (1 Corinthians 2:15-16). Jesus Himself said we’ll know a tree by its fruit (Matthew 7:15-20). And we can know Mr. Rangel by his fruit. It's not "judging" him, it's applying God's Word to get to the Truth (John 14:6).

His life has been an example of an immoral lifestyle all too common in politics on both sides of the aisle. From foul-mouthed blasphemies to unethical behavior and cronyism to defending adulterous degenerates, Mr. Rangel has been a poster child for immoral politicians. (Go to Google and search for “video of Charles Rangel” to find many examples of what I’m talking about. Be forewarned that Mr. Rangel has a blasphemous mouth and it’s truly sickening to listen to him profane the name of our Holy God).

But now, when the immoral behavior of spending money we don’t have begins to weigh heavy on the hearts and minds of the American people, now he wants to pretend he’s gotten religion (Romans 13:8; Proverbs 22:26-27). It’s the most despicable and cynical type of behavior imaginable. BUt that's all he and his pals have to offer the American people: pandering for votes by pretending they "care." Why? Because they know in their wicked hearts that they should be voted out of office and replaced with people who really do care about doing what's right in God's eyes as well as in light of the Constitution.

Mr. Rangel, you want to know what Jesus would do? Ask Him! Open His Word and read it and you’ll discover some quick, useful answers. Here are just a few:

1) Put God back into His rightful place in society, following the advice of the angels who announced the Messiah’s birth to the shepherds around Bethlehem: “ Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:14. Glory to God MUST come first or we’ll never see the peace and goodwill promised to mankind by God -- or any “peace“ that men promise to men.

2) Get government out of the charity business. That belongs to the people and the Church who will make every dollar stretch a lot farther because they don’t have to deal with corrupt politicians or lobbyists stealing everything they can get their hands on. Jesus expected His people to care for others and not to look to anyone else to do what they themselves should be doing (Mark 6:37). “Amazingly“, Jesus fed thousands of people without the government’s “help” and they took up multiple baskets of leftovers that were then put to good use.

3) Stop telling sinners that their sinful lifestyle is something to be celebrated when God says their sin will gain them entrance into hell for all eternity. Sinners need to be told that their sins are violations of God’s Law and the proper response is “repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 John 3:4; Acts 20:21). God can and will forgive anyone who truly repents and turns to Jesus in faith. Government should stop getting in the way!

4) Stop enabling freeloaders to become slaves on the government plantation. It’s not doing someone a favor by making them dependent on others who never give them anything but another “fix” to their immediate problem. The Apostle Paul dealt with this. He said “that if any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10). God created man to work; it’s a blessing. But government calls freeloading “entitlements” and acts like work is a dirty word.

5) Stop harassing Christians who are trying to be the salt and light of the world as Jesus called us to be. You don’t have to help us and, in fact, we don’t want your help. We’ll do the work, just stop hindering us all the time.

So, Mr. Rangel, please stop pretending that you care about God or His work. Your life says otherwise. Instead, why not repent of your sins and turn to Jesus Christ in faith. That’s what Jesus really wants! (1 Timothy 2:1-6)
